At least 30 people were burnt alive to death and 28 others were injured after the bus they were traveling collided with a diesel oil tanker in south India, Times Now TV channel reported on Sunday.

The accident occurred early on Sunday in the Chitradurga district in Karnataka state. There were 64 people traveling in the bus, including 10 children. The bus was going from Surapara to Bangalore when the tragedy occurred, the TV channel said, referring to local police.

The bus caught fire after colliding with the diesel tanker and burst into flames, the TV channel reported.

The state transport minister blamed the driver's negligence for the accident. The injured were taken to the local Challakere Hospital. Many have suffered burn injuries and have been shifted to other hospitals for better treatment, the TV channel reported.

About 100,000 people die annually in road accidents in India.
