NEW DELHI, April 20 (RIA Novosti) - A truck overturned in western India on Monday, killing 19 workers and injuring another 17, the Press Trust of India reported.
The truck was carrying more than 30 workers from the state of Maharashtra to Karnataka, in the country's south, when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle.
Many of the workers were killed by iron rods, which the truck was carrying, the newspaper said.
The injured were taken to a hospital. Police said the driver fled the accident scene. An investigation is underway.
Car accidents are routine in India due to speeding, poor driving standards and badly maintained vehicles and roads.
