VLADIVOSTOK, May 19 (RIA Novosti, Anatoly Ilyukhov) - Rostelecom (RTS: RTKM) said Friday it had completed the construction of a fiber-optic data transmission line to link Russia's Far East and China.

Russia's largest long-distance telecom services provider said it had connected Russian and European networks in the rapidly developing Far East region with those of China Telecom, China's largest fixed service telecommunications provider, linking the Amur Region's cities of Belogorsk and Blagoveshchensk with the Chinese city of Heihe on the Russian border.

"The fast-speed link will include all kinds of data transmission services, including Internet traffic and VoIP technologies," a company spokesperson said.

The company said the project was exceptionally important as the traffic between Europe and Asia is expected to triple by 2010.
