The site has begun operating normally after lagging for approximately two hours, the ministry said. The agency's IT Security Department is currently working to fend off any adverse effects of the attack.

The site of the Russian Defence Ministry has been targeted by a DDoS attack, the agency said in a statement on Friday. The attack occurred at approximately 10 a.m. Moscow time, causing access to the site to be disrupted for some users.

The source of the cyberattack, established as being located outside of Russia, caused no harm to the IT infrastructure of the site, the ministry added.

Per the agency, the DDoS attack has been completely neutralised.

"The official website of the Russian Ministry of Defence has been operating normally since 12:25 Moscow time [09:25 GMT] and is fully accessible to all Internet users", the ministry said in a statement.
