Three Russian citizens remain hostages of pirates who captured a Greece-flagged vessel off the coast of Benin, a Russian Embassy in Benin official said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On November 29, a Greek ship under the Panama flag, with 18 Russians and two Ukrainian citizens on board, was seized by pirates.

"The pirates instructed to head toward Nigeria. There, 30 kilometers [18.6 miles] from the Port of Harcourt the pirates abandoned ship and brought three hostages with them," chief of the consulate section of the Russian embassy, Nina Abramyan, told RIA Novosti.

Abramyan noted that a captain, second engineer and a cook — all of them Russian citizens — were among the captives aboard the Saronic Breeze vessel.

"We do not have information where the three Russians are now. But we are in constant contact with law enforcement authorities of Benin," she added.
