If you are in the middle of your trip to the Russian capital and end up in the subway, you might want to pull out your earphones.
"Music in the Metro," a project that aims to provide Moscow metro passengers with quality live music was launched on May 25. Thirty bands received official permission to perform in the subway following a competitive selection process.
The project aims to turn the subway into a kaleidoscope of different people, music genres and styles. And it accepts only live performances without backing tracks and phonograms!
Beginning August 3, you will even be able to check the daily timetable of all the concerts: the official website of the Moscow Metro now features the information on where and what time each band will perform.
Currently, there are three stages arranged for "underground shows:" lobbies of the Mayakovskaya, the Kurskaya and the Vystavochnaya stations. If the project is successful, more metro stations will get their own live soundtrack.
As for passengers, "Music in the Metro" will help to expand their musical horizons and simply raise passengers' spirits. The musicians could also benefit from the project: it is a great opportunity for them to express themselves and gain popularity among different listeners.
