MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov is anticipating the premiere of the documentary about peninsula's reunification with Russia and expects it to be successful.
Russian "Rossiya 1" TV channel will air Andrey Kondrashov's film titled "Crimea. Way Back Home" on March 16 at 10:10 p.m Moscow time (19:10 GMT).
"I gave a few comments [to the creators of the film]. It is a very professional group of journalists. I think this will be a product of high quality. We'll see," Aksyonov said Wednesday.
In the trailer to the film Putin said that the idea for Crimea's return appeared after Ukrainian nationalists supported by the West came to power following a military coup. Putin said Russia could not abandon Crimea and "throw the people under the wheels of this nationalist bulldozer."
The United States and the European Union strongly criticized Putin's insight on the events that took place before the referendum on Crimean reunion with Russia in the film, once again condemning the reunification.
Crimea and Sevastopol became Russian regions following a referendum held last March, when 96 percent of voters backed seceding from Ukraine and reuniting with Russia. Despite this, Kiev authorities and Western states have branded the move an "illegal annexation."
