MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia's largest military units with over 150 servicemen will be served in canteens through a new meal order system, identifying soldiers' fingerprints, Russian newspaper Izvestia reported Wednesday, citing a military source.
The fingerprint-based system, scheduled to be implemented by July, will help soldiers avoid having to wait in long lines during meal breaks, according to the newspaper's sources.
Under the new system, those not eating in the canteen would be able to notify the system in advance, allowing the number of served portions to be precisely calculated for each meal sitting.
The Defense Ministry claims that the system would save about 3.5 billion rubles ($56.5 million) annually. The ministry is expected to spend about 600 million rubles ($9.7 million) on the system's implementation, the newspaper said.
