A drunk former ambulance driver hit two pedestrians in central Russia, leaving one victim in the road and abandoning the second in a nearby forest, a representative of the regional prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.

VORONEZH, August 27 (RIA Novosti) – A drunk former ambulance driver hit two pedestrians in central Russia, leaving one victim in the road and abandoning the second in a nearby forest, a representative of the regional prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.

Doctors are currently fighting to save the life of the second victim, who crashed through the car’s windshield and was lodged partway inside the vehicle, Yevgeny Tishchenko, acting senior assistant at the Voronezh Region prosecutor’s office, told RIA Novosti.

The first victim was literally run over and suffered severe leg injuries, though he managed to tell police the VAZ-2106’s license plate number, Tishchenko said, adding that passing drivers rushed to the man’s aid.

The perpetrator, identified only as a former ambulance driver born in 1961, drove the second victim about two kilometers into a forest and left him there without any medical assistance, before driving to a nearby village named Anna and leaving his car in a garage, Tishchenko said.

That victim was fortunately discovered by police who just happened to be passing by, the representative said. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, though news of it was widely reported only on Tuesday, when the driver was taken into custody.

The driver will be charged with committing a traffic violation while intoxicated, negligently causing serious harm to human health and leaving individuals in peril, Tishchenko said.
