MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – Two activists from the radical feminist movement Femen were arrested in Stockholm on Thursday for illegally entering the Russian Embassy compound, an embassy official said.

The two activists appeared in front the embassy’s main gate at 9 a.m. local time and unfolded a rainbow flag, embassy press attache Alexander Pashedko told RIA Novosti.

“Minutes later, the two women climbed over the embassy fence and proceeded with the ‘standard’ Femen protest: topless,” he said, adding that embassy staff called the police.

“As far as we know, those women have been detained and are now being questioned by police,” he said.

He also said that later a demonstration in support of ethnic minority rights in Russia was held outside the embassy, adding that the rally had been approved by local authorities.

The Femen movement, founded in Ukraine, has attracted international attention with its topless protests against sexism, homophobia, prostitution and religious dogma.

The group has established branches in Paris and Berlin but has not yet been able to secure formal registration in its home country, according to the RAPSI legal news agency.
