Russia's political opposition applied on Monday morning to hold a May 6 "March of Millions" in Moscow to protest the results of parliamentary and presidential elections, the Left Front movement said in a statement.
Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov is among the demonstration organizers listed on the application. Other political movements and public organizations are invited to take part.
"We believe that the elections were not legitimate and demand repeat elections and real political reforms," Udaltsov is quoted in the statement as saying.
The application is for a march from Triumfalnaya Square along Tverskaya Street to Manezhnaya Square next to the Kremlin walls. The proposed start time is 3:00 p.m. on May 6.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is scheduled to be inaugurated as president on May 7.
The Moscow mayor's office should respond to the application request within three days. "We are prepared to negotiate, to discuss the route and the time," Udaltsov said.
