The colors of the new Russian police uniform will probably resemble those of Czarist Russia's police outfits, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said on Friday.

The colors of the new Russian police uniform will probably resemble those of Czarist Russia's police outfits, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said on Friday.

Russian police will get a new look with uniforms designed by one of the country's most famous fashion designers, Valentin Yudashkin, who has worked with the Interior Ministry since 2007.

Yudashkin has already designed the new uniforms for the Russian Army.

"The color array will come from then [from pre-revolutionary times], there must be some kind of succession," Nurgaliyev said, adding that he however preferred the traditional style.

The new police uniforms will be dark blue with red trimming on the sleeves, pockets and lapels, traditional for pre-revolutionary Russia. The parade uniform will be in grays.

In a bid to restore the soured image of the Russian law enforcers, who have seen a string of scandals in recent years, President Dmitry Medvedev launched a police reform which, among other things, renames the Russian law enforcement agency from the traditional "militsiya" to the more Western-sounding title of "police."
