A militant was killed in a special security operation in the Republic of Dagestan in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region, the republican interior ministry said on Sunday.
The militant was killed in a forest on the edge of the village of Echeda in the Tsumadin district in central Dagestan. In response to the demand to surrender, the militant opened fire and was killed by retaliation fire, the ministry said.
No one was hurt among the interior ministry's personnel, the ministry said.
Attacks on police and officials are common in Russia's North Caucasus republics, in particular Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia.
