NAZRAN, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Two police officers were killed and another injured in an attack on a police station in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia early on Monday, a police source said.
The deaths occurred when unknown assailants opened fire at the police station, situated in the village of Achaluki. A third officer was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
The attackers then fled, the source said. He added that a search for them was under way.
Although the active phase of the antiterrorism campaign in Russia's North Caucasus officially ended in 2001, periodic bombings and clashes between militants and federal troops still disrupt Chechnya and nearby regions, including Ingushetia.
