Sergei Kiriyenko, the head of Russia's Federal Agency for Nuclear Power, and Tzipi Livni, who is on a working visit to Russia, discussed international cooperation in the sphere of civilian use of nuclear energy, the agency's press service said.
However, the press service declined to disclose the details of the talks.
The five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany drafted a package of incentives to persuade Iran to suspend work on enriching uranium, which could be used in both electricity generation and weapons production. EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana presented the offer to Tehran during a visit to Iran June 6.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said July 2 that Iran had not been given a specific timeframe to answer the proposals and added that Tehran would give its answer next month.
But U.S. President George Bush's administration warned Iran on Monday that the United States would consider taking action in the United Nations if Tehran did not respond to the package by July 12.
The United States and the United Kingdom have been pushing for sanctions to be imposed on Tehran, whereas Russia and China have been consistently opposed to the move. France has called for a cautious approach to the matter.
