MOSCOW, February 9 (RIA Novosti) - Security measures have been tightened at the Danish Embassy in Moscow over threats from a radical group, police said Thursday. "The Embassy of Denmark requested police to take extra security measures on Thursday morning," a police officer said, adding that 20 OMON (special police force) officers had been sent to guard the embassy.
A Russian diplomat said the embassy had been informed of an attack being planned by an extremist group.
Danish diplomatic missions in Muslim countries and countries with considerable Muslim populations have been facing threats and attacks since a Danish newspaper published satirical cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed. The cartoons, which were subsequently reprinted in several other countries, were called blasphemous and triggered violent protests across the Muslim world.
