NOVOSIBIRSK, December 28 (RIA Novosti, Yana Ryabinskaya) - A three-year old snow leopard of the Novosibirsk Zoo in Siberia has undergone cosmetic surgery, the head of the zoo's veterinary service said Wednesday.
Svetlana Verkholantseva said that a few weeks ago, the snow leopard named Greta was diagnosed with ophthalmia, which made it necessary for doctors to remove her eye.
Soon after the initial operation, Novosibirsk medical experts performed cosmetic surgery on the Greta's eyelid to "create the effect of an eye," the official said.
According to Verkholantseva, the surgery was successful and no complications have been reported.
Greta, who was brought to Siberia from the Czech Republic last year, was transferred to a special cage for the duration of the operation. "She has returned to her 'home' and is feeling well now," Verkholantseva said.
