"We are convinced that to eradicate this evil, forceful measures alone are not enough," Putin told journalists after meeting with King of Jordan Abdullah II. "And identifying Islam, a great world religion, with terrorism, is of course unacceptable."
The discussions between the countries' leaders focused on combating terrorism.
"It is important to step up a broad dialog between confessions and civilizations, and provide for settling sharp social problems," Putin said.
Putin said Russia confirmed its intentions to step up dialogue on combating terrorism, including with the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
