MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - Bird flu cases have been confirmed in 36 settlements of six Russian Federation members in West Siberia and the Urals region, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision said Thursday.
Bird flu cases were discovered in the Tyumen, Omsk, Kurgan, Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk regions and the Altai territory, the federal service said, adding that all these regions share a border with Kazakhstan.
A quarantine was imposed on local poultry farms where some 70,000 birds were slaughtered.
