South African Elections | Scottish FM Visits Germany

South African elections have dented the dominant ANC party, but just how will coalition governments fare in the country’s acrimonious political climate? And, Scotland’s First Minister travels to the EU powerhouse that is Germany, in a continuation of her campaign to keep Scotland inside the European Union.

Today’s main stories:  South Africa's local elections saw the ruling ANC party polling below sixty percent for the first time since the fall of apartheid.  But given the bitter divides in South African politics, will the necessary coalitions ever be able to work?  We talk with the South African journalist Nickolaus Bauer.

Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon made what was billed as a surprise visit to Germany, in her continued effort to strengthen diplomatic links with the EU, as she tries to find a way to keep Scotland inside the European union in the wake of the Brexit vote in June.   We speak to the director of Common Weal, Robin McAlpine.
