Serbia is rocked by mass protests against the government’s plans to de-facto abandon its neutrality and build an alliance with NATO, as the bitter memories of the bloc’s bombardment of Belgrade remain on everyone’s minds.

In an article entitled “Mass Protest In Belgrade Against Agreement With NATO”, carried by the InSerbia media outlet, it’s written that:

“Several thousand people protested in front of the Serbian Presidency building at Andricev Venac in Belgrade over ratification of the Agreement between Serbia and NATO on cooperation in the field of logistic support.”, and that “They requested a referendum on the law, as well as on Serbia’s approach to NATO until March 27th.”

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was perplexed at the government’s decision to move forward with the NATO agreement, especially in light the US killing two Serbian diplomatic hostages in Libya when it bombed Daesh last week. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to these confusing events by clearly stating that:

“I think this is a special kind of humiliation, attempts to impose the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’, when they force their victims to love them and admit publicly that they want to be with them”.

Alexander Domrin, professor at the Higher School of Economics (studio guest); Borislav Korkodelovich, independent political analyst (from Belgrade); Danijela Dorado Radojicic, Serbian political activist (from Belgrade); and Stevan Gajic, Political Scientist from the Institute of European Studies (from Belgrade) commented on the issue.
