German Chancellor Angela Merkel emerged as the key figure behind the controversial bailout program for Greece, which was described by her opponents as a “fatal poisonous cocktail of austerity policies”.

Many commentators are criticizing Angela Merkel for turning Greece into a so-called colony, with social media hashtags being spread that say #ThisIsACoup. Ever more, it seems to independent observers both in Greece and in Germany that Berlin has been tightening its economic hold on the EU, becoming the uncontestable power on the continent and the one who’s really pulling the strings. For the immensely controversial terms that she forced Greece to adhere to, Angela Merkel is our Person in the News this week.

Kyrill Koktysh, an associate professor of Moscow State Institute of International relations with Russia's Foreign Ministry (studio guest), Anna Lyatsou, independent researcher and author and Christophe Dispas, Professor of Finance and Head of Department of Finance at the SKEMA Business School (France) joined us to discuss the issue.
