Brexit - Democracy or Collective Madness?

On this episode, John Wight sits down with Gina Miller to discuss Brexit and the ongoing political crisis that has ensued as a result.

Over a year on from the decision taken by the British people to exit the EU, expressed in the referendum that was held on the question in June 2016, the country remains engulfed in a political crisis that shows no sign of abating anytime soon.

Compounding this crisis is the result of the early general election called by Prime Minister Theresa May on 8 June 2017, which saw her lose rather than bolster her parliamentary majority, thus plunging her leadership into a vortex of uncertainty. Indeed many are predicting that it's now a question of 'when' not 'if' a challenge to that leadership is mounted from within her own cabinet.

All this takes place as Britain embarks on the second round of its crucial negotiations with the EU to determine the terms of the country's departure. With the economic consequences of exiting the European single market inarguable, and with neither the government nor Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party positing the option of a second referendum to provide the country with the opportunity to revisit the issue once it becomes clear what Brexit will look like or involve, the possibility of the country heading off the edge of a political and economic cliff without a parachute appears very real.

John Wight discusses Brexit and the ongoing political crisis with Gina Miller.
