Russia denies media reports of its alleged involvement in cyberattacks against the Italian Foreign Ministry, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Friday.

ROME (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, the Guardian newspaper reported that there was a cyberattack on the Italian Foreign Ministry last year which could allegedly be tied to Russia.

"There are no facts to corroborate these statements," Zakharova told the Italian ANSA news agency.

Moscow Regards Dutch Allegations of Russian Cyberattacks as 'Hysteria'
On Thursday, commenting on Dutch allegations that Moscow was behind the cyberattacks aimed at influencing the results of parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, Zakharova said that "members of the state’s government are increasingly active in engaging in this hysteria, amplified by the media." The ministerial spokeswoman stressed that despite Canadian, Norwegian, UK, Dutch, Czech, Estonian and other accusations, Russia never had "so many hackers."

Russian President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the accusations, stated that they were unsubstantiated while the hysteria around them was escalated in order to distract attention from their content.
