The UN Security Council began with a minute of silence tribute to the victims of the most recent terrorist attacks, including the murder of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The UN Security Council, presided by Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, started its Tuesday meeting with a minute of silence tribute to the victims of the most recent terrorist attacks, including the assassination of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov.

"Unfortunately, once again we must begin this open debate by expressing our deepest condolences in the wake of the cruelest terrorist attacks that have occurred in recent days," Rajoy said. "The attack in Ankara being carried out against his excellency Andrey Karlov, the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkey."

Rajoy listed the other terrorist attacks that took place in Aden, Yemen, Amman, Jordan and Berlin, Germany, and expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

On Monday, Karlov was killed by a gunman at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara. Three other people were also injured in the attack.
