MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was killed by a gunman at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara. Three other people were also injured in the attack.
"The ministers confirmed their intention to apply even more efforts at effectively countering the terrorist threat, eliminating any threats of provocations aiming to undermine the development of Russian-Turkish relations and the two countries' cooperation in fighting terrorism in Syria and Iraq," the ministry said in a statement after a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
He said he was ready to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow.
"Regarding a meeting with Vladimir Vladimirovich, we have not received any information about this, but we are always ready for such a meeting if Putin considers it appropriate," Cavusoglu said.
