MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the EU leaders agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another six months, until mid-2017 because of the situation in the eastern Ukraine.
"To be honest, this was not a surprise. The European Union has once again demonstrated its weakness and inability to admit the obvious: linking the restrictions to the implementation by Moscow of the Minsk agreements is absurd," the ministry said.
"Russia plays a constructive role in the negotiations in the Normandy format. Undoubtedly, the anti-Russian restrictions became an end in itself for the EU, which, for lack of other good examples, wants in every possible way to demonstrate its notorious unity at least in this sphere," it said.
