Russia is going to use its potential in the international arena for playing a constructive role in global politics and ensuring peace based on supremacy of the international law, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – He noted that the Russian foreign policy course enjoyed broad support inside the country, as well as abroad.

"Our potential and ability to play a constructive role in the global politics for the sake of peace based on cooperation and progressive development, peace based on the supremacy of the international law – these opportunities are significant. And we will actively use them," Ryabkov said at the X Convention of the Russian International Studies Association.

New Concept of Foreign Policy Shows 'Russia Doesn't Call Any Countries Threats'
Ryabkov also pointed out that the new Russian Foreign Policy Concept remained committed to the basic principles of Russian foreign policy such as self-sufficiency, multi-vector approach, respect for the international law as well as openness for developing equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all partners.

"Today it has become clear as never before that no country can rule the world alone, impose its approaches and agenda and cope with the all the challenges and threats. The key point of the [Russian] concept is consistent with protection of national interests and active contribution to solving crucial international problems through establishing joint actions of key international actors. That is the unique Russian role as a guarantor of the global stability," Ryabkov added.

The new Russian Foreign Policy Concept was issued on December 1. According to the document, Russia is taking all necessary measures to fight terrorism and considers strengthening of international law as its priority.
