MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French politicians Francois Fillon and Alain Juppe on Sunday cast their ballots in the final round of The Republicans party primaries that would show, who would participate in the forthcoming presidential elections, local media reported.
Fillon, who won the first round of primaries voted in the seventh arrondissement of Paris.
"I am waiting for the voters' verdict. They should speak out now, not the candidates," Fillon said, as quoted by the BFMTV broadcaster.
The media outlet added that his opponent Juppe had already voted in the city of Bordeaux.
On November 20, Fillon and Juppe won in the first round of The Republicans primaries with the former securing 44 percent of center-right voters while the latter, long thought to be the front runner, ended with just 28 percent.
Earlier in the day, former French leader Nicolas Sarkozy and former Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, who had lost in the first round of primaries to Fillon and Juppe, also voted in the second round.
The first round of presidential elections in France is scheduled for April 23, 2017.
