"One of the main tasks is the restoration of friendly, strategic, partner economic relations with Russia. The first [Dodon's] visit in this new position will be paid to Russia. We will deal with two issues — restoration of economic ties and access to [Russian] market and the problem of our people working there, the social protection for migrants," Turcan, who in 2002-2005 was Moldova's ambassador to Russia, said.
The lawmaker added that the preliminary work on the visit's agenda had already started.
"The visit should be substantial, solid, effective [so that] people of Moldova could see — they put their trust in [the Socialist party] and here are the first steps towards the realization of this trust," Turkan pointed out.
During his election campaign Dodon stressed the need to improve Chisinau's relations with Moscow, especially in economic sphere, and even suggested that once he becomes president Moldova would hold a referendum on whether the country should withdraw from the 2014 political and trade agreement with the European Union and instead join the Russia-led Eurasian economic community.
