The Council of the European Union on Thursday imposed sanctions on ten more people affiliated with the Syrian government bringing the total number of those sanctioned to 217.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The council specified that those sanctioned include high-ranking military and government officials.

"On 27 October 2016, the Council added 10 persons to the list of those targeted by EU restrictive measures against the Syrian regime for being responsible for the violent repression against the civilian population in Syria, benefiting from or supporting the regime, and/or being associated with such persons," the statement read.
