UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — New Zealand started working on a draft resolution on the Syrian city of Aleppo earlier this month after the French-Spanish and Russian draft resolutions were vetoed by the UN Security Council.
"Earlier this week, we had the curious situation that one side of the debate said the key paragraph in our draft was not acceptable because it would stop all air attacks over Aleppo and the others said it was unacceptable because it would not. Both cannot be right. Yet for now, there is no prospect of navigating these mutually inconsistent positions," van Bohemen stated on Wednesday.
Van Bohemen expressed regret that "geopolitics are being put ahead of people and once again preventing agreement on effective international action."
