Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said that there is no point in mentioning sanctions related to the situation in Syria in the final document of the European Council summit in Brussels.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — There is no point in mentioning sanctions related to the situation in Syria in the final document of the European Council summit in Brussels, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said Friday.

"As for the Syrian issue, we are concerned about it. We have finalized a document which calls for an agreement, a real truce and political transition. But I think there is no point in including sanctions in it," Renzi told journalists after the summit.
