Kremlin: UK Obliged to Secure Diplomats, Not Urge Protests Outside Embassies

The United Kingdom has an obligation to protect diplomatic establishments on its territory, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday commenting on the British foreign minister's call for protests outside the Russian embassy.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson urged to stage demonstrations outside Russia’s Embassy in London over Moscow’s campaign in Syria.

"My colleague [Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria] Zakharova has already given a comprehensive response to the statement of the UK minister. I would like just to add that the UK minister is well aware of the Vienna Convention [on Diplomatic Relations] and the obligation of the United Kingdom to bear responsibility for the security of Russia's diplomatic missions located at its territory," Peskov told reporters.
