MOSCOW (Sputnik) – He noted that Brazil was actively promoting its ideas during all BRICS events and played a constructive role in the discussion on the counterterrorism issue.

“I do not see any reasons for such conclusions that Michel Temer’s coming to power would damage deepening of cooperation in the BRICS format that we have seen in the recent years,” Ryabkov said.

“Coming to power of new Brazilian leadership did not result in a pause and the continuation of the work in the BRICS format was ensured which is very positive,” Ryabkov said.

Temer became president on August 31, replacing Dilma Rousseff, who was impeached by Brazilian legislators on allegations that she had manipulated the national budget.

BRICS is an association of five developing economies (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), which comprise over one third of the world’s population. The five nations have a combined nominal GDP equivalent to approximately 20 percent of world gross product.
