US Close Relations With Brazil to Continue After Rousseff Impeachment

The United States will continue to have a close relationships with Brazil after the Brazilian Senate voted to impeach President Dilma Rouseff earlier on Wednesday, US Department of State spokesperson John Kirby said at a press briefing.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, as many as 61 Brazilian senators voted to remove Rousseff from her post. A subsequent vote to bar Rousseff from holding public office for eight years failed.

"We’ve seen reports that the Brazilian Senate in accordance with Brazil’s constitutional framework has voted to remove President Rousseff from office," Kirby stated. "We’re confident that we will continue the strong bilateral relationship that exists between our two countries as the two largest democracies and economies in the hemisphere."
