Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen for efforts to undermine Moscow-Ankara relations.

STRELNA (Russia), (Sputnik) — Organization led by Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen has made efforts to undermine Turkey-Russia relations, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

"Today we understand even more clear that terrorist organization of Fethullah [Gulen] and those powers that stand behind him, have been undermining our relations with you," Erdogan said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and representatives of two countries' business.

Ankara has accused Gulen and his followers of playing a key role in the mid-July attempted coup, which claimed lives of over 240 people. Gulen, who has lived in the US state of Pennsylvania since 1999, has denied allegations that he orchestrated the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey.
