YEREVAN (Sputnik) — According to the statement, the ministerial meeting is expected to be devoted to the issues of current developments and perspectives of the Eastern Partnership, as well as preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit scheduled for 2017.

The Eastern Partnership, an EU program adopted in 2008, is aimed at rapprochement of the European Union and Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia and Belarus.

The Eastern Partnership program also stipulates for its members possible association with the European Union. Yerevan was due to sign an association agreement with Brussels along with a free trade deal in late 2013, but several months ahead of the agreements' conclusion Armenia decided to join the Customs Union.

Nevertheless, the European Council authorized the European Commission in October 2015 to initiate talks on a new comprehensive agreement with Armenia that would replace the existing partnership agreement between Yerevan and Brussels.
