The perpetrators of the 2014 attack on the Trade Union Building in Odessa that killed 48 people must be brought to justice, US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On May 2, 2014, pro-Kiev demonstrators blocked anti-government protesters in Odessa's House of Trade Unions and set the building on fire by hurling Molotov cocktails inside. Forty-eight people died in the incident and more than 250 were injured.

"It was a horrific event, and in any kind of event like this there needs to be a resolution. There needs to be closure, and that’s what an investigation and bringing those who carried out this act to justice would bring," Toner told reporters.
