MOSCOW (Sputnik) The EU politicians are due to meet the head of Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord, Fayez Sarraj, as well as the country’s foreign minister at a heavily guarded naval base in Tripoli, French radio station France Info reported.

Ayrault brought aboard his plane several tons of humanitarian aid for the Libyan population, the broadcaster added.

On Thursday, the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, France and Spain arrived in the Libyan capital of Tripoli to express their support to the new UN-backed national unity government.

In December, Libya’s rival governments (the internationally-recognized Council of Deputies based in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress) agreed to create a Government of National Accord and end the political struggle.

On April 5, the General National Congress announced it would step down.
