EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said that the question of Mogherini's visit Moscow has not been raised.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The information about the visit of EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini to Moscow has not yet been confirmed, and is currently off the EU Council agenda, an informed EU source said on Monday.

Earlier in the day, another EU source told reporters that the bloc's foreign ministers had discussed during EU Foreign Affairs Council the preparations for a possible visit of Mogherini to the Russian capital, but the final decision was pending.

"The question of Mogherini's visit Moscow has not been raised," the source told reporters.

Mogherini said on arrival to the Monday's Foreign Affairs Council that the 28 European diplomats were due to discuss "the guiding principles" of Brussels’ bilateral relations with Russia. She said anti-Russia sanctions were not on the agenda of Monday’s meeting.

The European Union extended its anti-Russian sanctions until September 15 on Thursday. Sanctions were previously imposed against Russia after Crimean residents voted to rejoin Russia in March 2014. The Kiev government and Western countries have not recognized the legitimacy of the vote over what they label a Crimean "annexation."
