Jens Stoltenberg said that resolution of global crises was impossible without Russia.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said it was impossible to resolve major international conflicts without Russia, in an interview with German newspaper Bild published Monday.

"The world is too complicated to divide it into friends and foes. Without Russia we cannot resolve major conflicts around the world," Stoltenberg asserted.

Russian envoy to the military alliance Alexander Grushko told US media on Sunday that Moscow was ready to cooperate with NATO on tackling global challenges.

Stoltenberg also said that at the moment NATO did not regard Russia as an ally, but added that, "of course, we do not want a new war," in response to a question whether NATO’s recent military buildup in Eastern Europe was in preparation to a new cold war.

The NATO chief has repeatedly called for a reinforced military presence in Eastern Europe in response to what he and the West claim to be a Russian threat.
