Serbian Ambassador to Russia Slavenko Terzic said that Belgrade will never join sanctions against Russia and does not consider sanctions as "solution" to political problems.

MOSCOW(Sputnik) — Serbia will never join the European Union's sanctions against Russia, Serbian Ambassador to Russia Slavenko Terzic said Friday.

"You know well that we have not joined sanctions against Russia and we will never join," Terzic told reporters during a press conference at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.

The Serbian diplomat said Belgrade believed that sanctions were not a solution.

"We think that the EU should unite people. We are looking forward to an improvement in EU-Russia relations," he added.

Russia’s relations with the 28-nation bloc soured in 2014 over the Ukrainian crisis. The European Union acted in concert with the United States to impose a series of economic sanctions on Russia’s energy, banking and defense sectors, citing its alleged involvement in Ukraine's internal affairs. Moscow has denied the allegations.
