MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — On Sunday, the UN Security Council held an emergency session and called for a response to North Korea's launch of the Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite atop a long-range rocket. Although North Korea said the launch was for scientific purposes, some nations saw it as a front for a ballistic missile test.
"I do not believe that additional sanctions are the right thing to do. More can be gained by normalizing relations with the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea]. Respect their right of self-determination and treat them like equal partners," Joe Lombardo said.
"Therefore, I see the attempts of the DPRK as a defensive move. I would be happy to see all countries give up their nuclear weapons but the most dangerous country and the only one that has ever used a nuclear bomb must do it first and not make demands on other countries while the U.S. is modernizing its own nuclear program," the activist stressed.
Tensions over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs escalated after Pyongyang said on January 6 that it had successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test, triggering condemnation from the international community.
