MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Tokyo is working on a possible meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in Turkey, Japan's chief cabinet secretary said Friday.

"We had an agreement with Russia reached during a recent meeting to hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of international forums this fall. And now we are engaged in its implementation," Yoshihide Suga said during a press conference.

Earlier in the day, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Tokyo was preparing to hold talks with Putin and hoped the meeting would contribute to the signing of a peace treaty.
