WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Obama at the White House to discuss pending security issues, including Israeli-Palestinian relations, as well as Israel's purchase of US military equipment.
"On December 9th, President Obama will welcome Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to the White House for a meeting," the statement read on Tuesday.
Shortly ahead of the meeting, the White House said it anticipated that a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine is unlikely to be reached before Obama leaves office in early 2017.
The White House also noted that Obama looks forward to discussing with Rivlin a range of issues of common focus, including security issues as well as the need for a genuine "peace between Israelis and Palestinians and a two-state solution."
Rivlin will be an honored guest at the White House’s Hannukah reception after the meeting with Obama, the release concluded.
