MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has canceled his earlier announced trip to Caracas, Venezuela, slated for September 26 as the Russian top diplomat will meet with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
“Talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Venezuelan President N. Maduro, and Foreign Minister D. Rodriguez, which were scheduled for September 26 in Caracas, have been moved to New York, where the Venezuelan leadership is heading in connection with reaching breakthrough decisions of settling the domestic conflict in Colombia,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Venezuela has played a large role in settling the conflict in neighboring Colombia, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
