“A telephone conversation is scheduled this afternoon with Germany Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier,” the ministry said.
The ministry did not specify what the subject of the conversation would be, but it is widely believed that the situation in eastern Ukraine will be discussed as well as a possible future meeting or telephone discussion between the Normandy Quartet participants of Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and France.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to have a telephone conversation late on Wednesday in an unspecified international format, the Kremlin said.
The Normandy Quartet brokered a ceasefire deal in the Belarusian capital of Minsk between Kiev and the Donbass republics earlier this year.
On Tuesday, a Trilateral Contact Group, with the inclusion of representatives of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, held a meeting on Ukrainian reconciliation and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
