The Russian Foreign Ministry called Kiev's inclusion of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov in the list of defendants in the case of Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko 'an example of political engagement and legal barbarism.'

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kiev's inclusion of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov in the list of defendants in the case of Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko is absurd and politically motivated, a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Savchenko's Notes Prove Involvement in Russian Journalists' Killing
Earlier in the day, Savchenko's lawyer has uploaded in the social networks an official notification issued by Kiev about bringing charges against Titov under the investigation of Savchenko's "illegal deprivation of freedom" in Russia.

"The absurdity of the actions and statements by the Ukrainian authorities about the so-called Savchenko's case is obvious. It is an example of political engagement and legal barbarism. The Foreign Ministry is not engaged in deprivation of liberty, while the measure of Savchenko's guilt will be determined in court," the source said.

Savchenko has been in pretrial detention in Russia since summer 2014, as a suspected accomplice in the killing of two Russian journalists during early stages of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
