France intends to support International Monetary Fund's (IMF) proposal alleviate Greece's debt burden, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said in an address to the country's National Assembly on Wednesday.

PARIS (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, the IMF said that EU countries should give Greece a 30-year grace period for paying back its European debt.

"The IMF has said in the past few hours that Greek debt should be eased, and that is what we will do by restructuring it" Valls said.

On Monday, an agreement on the third Greek bailout deal was announced after 17 hours of talks between European leaders who had met in Brussels on Sunday.

According to Valls, the Eurogroup is considering measures to allow Greece "to regain oxygen" and ensure the sustainability the country's debt.

"A balanced approach to the debt is vital for Greece, so that it can begin to consider a future that is not be limited solely to repayments," Valls said.

The bailout packaged is estimated at $95 billion over the next three years, and stipulates that the Greek parliament must pass unpopular austerity measures – including pension reforms and VAT increases – by the end of Wednesday, in order for the country to stay in the currency union and secure the much-needed cash.
